Another 44 mag loading question

A couple years ago I ordered 1000 Starline 44 mag cases since that is primarily what I shoot for IHMSA. Out of curiosity I've kept track of how many cycles they've been through. I'm on the 11th loading of these cases and only two have bit the dust. One cracked and one rolled at the case mouth (my fault). They have been loaded about 1/3 big bore and 2/3 field pistol loads. I'm seeing now that small slivers or chips of brass are shaving off when I apply a taper (or profile) crimp. I'm assuming it is because the case mouths have been through a lot of reforming/deforming. It is a bit messy but it doesn't really bother me. Should I trim them to true the case mouth or just leave them?

They are measuring about 1.65" after resizing. Shouldn't they be stretching longer rather than shrinking?

Trim to length is 1.275. Might be time for new cases.

I have found that straight wall pistol cases, do....

not tend to stretch much in length. When a case gets past its prime, the web, lower part of the case is the weak link, it tends to get thinner. Not to stir the pot, but how come you are not using a roll crimp? Just my opinions.

I use a roll crimp or a profile crimp. I must've had taper crimp on the brain.

I have never trimmed a straight wall case, except

for the 44 Auto Mag which started out as a 308 case.

I kept track with 100 Starline 45 Colt cases. Half

probably standard pressure loads half Cowboy loads. They did great up to 15 loads then I quit keeping track. Then all of a sudden about 10% would split. I'm guessing that was about the 20th reload.
