The orginal .41 Maximum carbine

I've always admire the very "different" looking Winchester Self-loading pre-war rifles. The fact ammo is not currently produced only adds to the allure. I lament selling my sweet little .351 WSL as it mimic'd the .357 Maximum very well.

This is the larger .401 WSL and basically is what would be a ".41 Maximum" were there such a thing. The .414 Super Mag is about the same and I've reluctantly made perfect replica .401 brass from the rare cases. .41 Remington (seated long) and .30-30, .35 Remington, can all be modified and used too. However some of the fastest and easiest cases are 7.62X39 blown straight. I think if I shot the .30 cal. rounds into a bucket of water I could re-use the bullets! I simply fire boxer primed Russian rounds in the .401 chamber. You can see if you look close I need to trim very slightly. I can see on the brass exactly where my chamber ends, so I can trim and square the brass to that point. You can also see how much bullet I can hang out the front into the mag. I have a swell .410" 270 gr. FNGC that I can adapt to this perfectly.

It would be fun to peg some critter with the near 100 yr. old autoloader. Maybe a future HHC venture...
