I'm not sure how fun an M2 on full auto would be at 5 lbs. weight.

A friend told me a story of when he was in Korea. A little guy who they paid to keep their barracks clean and tidy went rogue with one. He had a bayonet on the end and was going bunk to bunk (friend said they had sort of curtains covering the bunks to block out light - he was in one) parting the curtain with the knife, checking for GI's to kill as they slept. When he got to my friend he grabbed the end of the bayonet (they are pokey but not sharp). They skuffled and the guy ran out. My friend got untangled and ran after him. In the muddy "street" the guy turned to fire at my friend full auto, he said maybe 25-30 yds. distance. Dumped a whole 30 rnd. mag full-auto and totally missed, thank the lord. Carl told me some Marines got hold of the guy and pealed him like an apple getting information from him. (His words) Who knows if it was a BS story but I remember the story from my teens.

The .30 Carbine round comes from the .32 WSL round that was basically a .32-20 Win. semi-rimless and a .32 Win. Special 170 gr. bullet. So in essence it's lineage is very much akin to a high pressure .32-20 Win. Not a bad idea for close up combat and a 5 lb. gun the weight of two handguns! Mine usually printed 2 MOA no problem. Shot flat to 200 yds.
