I was shocked why the same gun in .357 (like Jim's) cost $300+ more tan my +P .38. I also looked hard at the little S&W M351PD which is basically the same Ultra-lightweight snubbie as my .38 but chambered in rimfire .22 WMR. They wer around $200 more than my .38 but sported fancy laminate grips and fiber optic front sight.

Rethinking or to re-do:

How would you compare a 5-shot 12 oz. .38 Special to a 7-shot same (Scandium) in .22 WMR for everday, everywhere, everything, carry? Guys snap up the (expensive) used ones like hotcakes!

the 22 magnum will often do more tissue damage than a 38 spl

Plus you have much less recoil. In the ultra lightweight revolver the 38 spl +P to most folks kicks like a 44 mag in an all steel revolver. Guys around here buy the lightweight snubbies in 38 and 357 and within a week or so they bring them back in on trade. The recoil is too much for their wives.

Real world its a .38/158/700 fps vs .22/45/1300 fps. I can

vouch for the recoil part. I have not shot my .38 much at all since it is simply not fun in the slightest. Changing grips to the grabby overside rubber stocks that came on it I can endure it a bit. The pretty wood grips on the .38 sting the hand like an angry Catholic Nun with a ruler.

For $450, I bought a ballistically inferior 43C.

It has 8 shots and is even lighter still than the other 2. They ball mill the back strap and trigger guard to remove a little weight. Big Dot sight and easy to shoot. I think a 32 Mag J frame would really hit the sweet spot though. . .

They used to make a .327 J-frame 6-shot

My buddy had one. They had issues with them and dropped it. It was a 3" with adjustable sights.
