Reeder Custom Guns - This is the Ruger SMG I was thinking of yesterday...

I'm a bit shocked at Ruger, since the old man passed on, has seemed to cabbage onto some older designs and "improved" them for their own. But I guess it works. Probably not all that much on their bottom line for world sales but it's out there.

candle to an MP5. By far, the MP5 is the most popular SMG with the Sterling the SMG of choice for the Brits 1953 to 1995 when they switched to the MP5. The Sterling proves more reliable firing but the closed bolt roller breach MP5 if preferable. Takes a lot of debris to stop a forward advancing bolt of the Sterling though. However, I wouldn't mind one of these Ruger SMG's to mess with amongst my stable of SMG's.

of my own too. Sharing what you got in the SMG world isn't any different than what we share in handguns at the HHC. Honestly, I prefer my British Sterling to the MP5 because it is just as reliable, just as fast at 650rpm but a heck of a lot lighter. However, my BRP built Finnish SMG at 950rpm shoots so smooth and accurate it's incredible. Dumps a 72rd drum in 4.5 seconds and runs flawless.

only permitted to own a specific number of different models of SMG's built prior to 86 NFA laws....but there are lots of post 86 SMG's to be shot at other venues even though you can't own one.

I've shot it a bit, my wife too (she's a true terror with it!). You could do a lot worse than copy it. Ditto the Swedish K, I like simple things. German stuff (I have a BMW and Mercedes) I find perplexing in a pleasing way. Simple it ain't. Thank goodness the MP5 is blow back, that feature is one that's made it so successful.

I personally found the UZI compact, if heavy, but so controllable in full auto fire. The slower rate of fire compared to modern buzz-saws suits me just fine. 50 and probably even 100 yd. bursts accuracy is impressive to me. Semi-auto it shoots with any sporter.

I was not knocking Ruger for copying the UZI, just interesting. The article points that out too. They still make them. Looks to be a lot lighter and competing with the MP5K for under suit coat hiding.
