Everybody needs a good Cowboy gun

I like a good sturdy fixed sight gun. However regulation will always rear it's head. The .38/.357 is the only caliber I've shot that almost universally hits POA in a fixed sight gun. Most others need some fiddling or you just "know where it hits". The .38/.257 thing is a little easier as those usually have been set for 158 gr. or maybe* 125 gr. loads. Most use those anyway and it hits POA for you.

Mess with bullet weight or speed and things go off a bit. You can manipulate loads also to make it move up or down in relation to POA, find a load for the gun application. The .45 Colt is a good example, standard is 250 at about 850 fps. But for loading.... it's all over. My fine gun I want for carry back-up hunting. I regulated it for 300 gr. at 950-1000 fps. It works OK with the standard level too.

The gun used to belong be Jim Taylor's and is a cherished memento. It sports an action job, set-back trigger, Bullseye ejector rod head, and Belt Mountain #5 style cylinder pin. The grip is the Reeder Gunfighter Bisley that must be felt rather than try to describe with words.

It is almost perfect. For an OCD person (I'm not really one) the front sight tilts a RCH to the left. You can't hardly see it if I didn't tell you. This effects the group about 2.5" windage. It's only evident since it clusters them into one ragged hole. It's not really enough to have it fixed or mess with it. I tried to whack it to the right once, whacked it right off the barrel! Gary fixed it for free! Thanks again, Bwana. I "now where it hits" and just make the adjustment, that's perhaps some of the charm to a sturdy old fixed sight gun. It's personal at that level, it's my gun, for my time.
