405 WCF Ruger #1 for Africa...

Spoke to Daren today about the trip to Africa. He'd just ended a shooting session with his Ruger #1s.

He said the 405 WCF was grouping so well he decided to stretch the ranges a bit. At 200 yards groups were extremely small, so he tried the longest his range allows.

At 324 yards the gun grouped 2.5". I found that great for such a big cartridge.

Clearly, I know Creedmoor range was 1000 yards with the 45-70 and such. But, the big bores can still hold their own with today's offerings.

Maybe we could rename it 411 Valkyrie or something catchy like that.

Lucifer's Hammer, the 50 AE in a revolver. A fellow in Alaska that copied a lot of our stuff came out within about 6 months with Thor's Hammer.No idea if it did well for him but it would never be a name I would put on a gun.

Nothing like friends figuring how to throw you under the bus..ahead of time...lol. Guns and ammo definitely did their job. Bad news is no excuse for bad results. Well, maybe airline shook up my gear..yea yea.. Thats it.

Africa. The Reeder Clan has used them a lot over there. Colleen used a 30-06 and a 270 while Kase used a 378 Weatherby, a 45-70, a 416 Rigby and a 450 GNR.

Daren has a really nice assortment too. He bought his rare stainless 405 WCF in New Mexico while we were varmint hunting.

He said one day he'd take it to Africa. So, off we go.

Wish our sons were going. But, maybe one day...

did use a rifle was up on the arctic circle for Caribou. I used one in 45-70 and took both my caribou with it. That was back in 1990.Rifles only up there.

Not a Ruger #1 but in 1988 I used a 32 Winchester for Bear up in Canada.

Kase shot a monster hog at the HHC with his 450 KNR on our Big Bore/Big Boar hunt a few years ago.
