We survived before there were cell-phones. Just kidding, but it would be harder to get by now that they removed most of the pay phones. Where we live there are no phone lines, so if we want a phone cellular is the only choice.
I wait til I find someone who will let me use theirs ..

on the web, not sure how well they work. Lining the regular cell phone case with metal muffler tape may work, it sure stopped a store credit card reader from reading my card chip after I taped muffler tape on it.
Potato chip bags work too, see link ...
