I toyed with a semi-conventional semi-auto hunter

Blake and DougRx were successful in taking game, maybe others too. I just never took off after anything dedicated. They all used .45 1911 platforms and jacketed bullets. I know Randy and Sean used 10mm to good effect with bullets in the 190-210 gr. class. I think it's a valid idea to around 50 yds. for so for me. They sure are nice to pack.

I ran across this pic of my wife, Deanna (I'm banded from posting pics of her so shhhhhh!), firing my Uber Glock here in .45 Super. I actually reamed the chamber a little deeper for Rowland but the 1911's had issues feeding Rowland since the case extends over the ojive of some bullets meeting the OAL requirements. The Uber Super-G will eat about anything. Blake also helped me throat the chamber to lessen pressure and keep the slide closed a little longer. To be different I focused on "cast" bullets. Namely cheaper target types with special plain base gas checks fitted. They worked fine and the 200 gr. LEE SWC ran over 1400 fps with ease using Longshot powder. I even tested the LEE 300 gr. FNGC to a bit over 1000 fps but that plastic frame flexes all over and I did not want to push my luck further. In monitored moderation it can be done, a little.

Deanna uncorks a "Naugle" Nosler at 1400 fps. She has a weaker grip than me and always complained about Glocks, prefers a 1911.

The odd 200 gr. SWC "PB" gas check bullet. Slick, and fast, hits hard, a softer alloy mix would give some expansion if I wanted it. *I'm headspacing some off the extractor, keep it quiet.

I tried a scope mount and it worked great for a short time. The front pin bent and the frame flexed rubbing a small mark on the top of the slide. The thing shoots though, this was 33 yds. I'm a little scared of those slide mounted optics, but they are light enough it wouldn't hurt too bad if it hit you in the face. I might try one.
