There is a lot to be said for a rimfire

and no loading considerations, just get a box and shoot for pleasure. We shoot soda cans filled with water at 200 yds. A challenging target. Truly if there is a breeze. One note on small bores, they are hefty! The .17 in particular as the barrel is a solid chunk of metal with a tiny hole in it. That's one thing of note, the Contender in .17 is lots heaver than any other. On the bench that helps with shooting though.

In my view the .17 would be a little marginal for big Coyote without a precise shot, which is very easy with it. Mostly just my thoughts. Where I know of several Whitetails taken with the .22 WMR. If reloading is in the cards the .22 K-hornet is easy to manage, more so than the little .17. I can get over 3000 fps with it using 30 gr. bullets. Gary made me a 16" barrel for it and it can work as a handgun too. Other than that the .223 is a no brainer. We had an Ackley .223 I really liked, shoots factory ammo and loading steps it up smartly.

The .223 has pretty good blast, that's what makes me like the K-hornet. The .17 HMR is between a .22 LR and .22 WMR in blast. I love to load and tinker but the .17 HMR is nice to have around when I get lazy.
