Here is Alcorn's buff, the one on the left. We drove by him several times and each time he was standing by that bush..

some other Cape Buffalo.A herd that was mostly cows with one big bull and a couple of small ones..


The cows are ear tagged by the government to check for various diseases. This was a good buff but we passed him up. He had the width but the boss was small. John had promised me he would find me a bull that would rank #1, which he did. This one would have been top 6 or 7.

Some other plains game..there were hundreds of Sable on this preserve and about that many Roan. There were at least 300 Rhinos and they had their large horn cut off so the poachers were not interested in them. lots of wild horses on there too.

This is the horn from my Cape..he had the length and the huge boss that made him rank so high in the book.

He was hiding in some heavy brush and John spotted him as we drove by. We stopped and John told me to get out and bring the 450. When he tells me to bring my handgun I know there is something there to get him excited. The buff was about 85 yards away under that brush. As we stepped out he came out of the brush with his nose in the air. John told me to wait until he turned to one side and hit him on point of shoulder. I did and the bull dropped. He staggered up and John told me to hold off. The bull staggered a bit out to about 100 yards and turned to look back. John said hit him high in the shoulder which I did and it was all over. The best hunting episode of my life and a bull I had wanted for years.And contrary to what you read in the African hunting books, I hit him with a 500 grain soft point. I figured he would need the 500 grain solid but both shots used the new Hornady HSX bullet.
