skinners, camp girls who cook and wash your clothes every day runs about $3200. The airlines runs from $1100 to $1300 so figure $4500 as the base cost. Half the daily rates is due when you send the paperwork in which is usually mid summer or so. That works out to $1600 to $1800. The other half is due in mid to late fall. About that time Air2000 will get your credit card number and they will book the van and start on the gun permits etc. The fees for the animals you take is not due until after the hunt and after you get home. The cost of the animals varies from $500 on up. Some top of the line animals like Kudu, Gemsbok and such run a bit over $3000. Smaller animals run a lot less. So in theory you could take 4 or 5 plains game animals for around $5000. The only other charges are the van rental to camp and back, one night at a hotel near the airport, and the fee to Air2000 to get our gun permits and meet and greet us as we get off the plane and escort us around customs and to the hotel and then in the morning to the van and then meet us again when the hunt is over and escort us to customs again and to our flight. This past hunt that ran a total of about $650.
The other costs are the tips to your PH and the camp staff. What I normally do is the last evening collect $250 from each hunter which runs a total of $3000 and I give that to John. he then parcels it out to the trackers skinners, camp girls etc. The tip to your PH is all up to you. John's PHs are paid very well as they are true professionals so your tip is all up to you. Most of us tip them $350 to $500.
John's wife Lauri, is from Texas and has an account in Dallas. What I have done in the past is have Colleen deposit some money in her account every couple of weeks. This way by the time the hunt comes around I will have most if not all of the hunt paid for.
This may well be the most expensive hunt you have ever gone on, but by spreading the cost out over about a year it is not bad on you at all.
