We bought a Rem. M700 synthetic special run. It came in and I took it from the box, could not have weighed over 6 lbs! I told my friend who wanted it I was NOT going to shoot it. He had a fresh box of 220 gr. factory ammo (with the Tiger on the side of the brown and yellow box). We decided to send it to Mag-na-port without even firing it.

When it came back I test fired it and could not believe it. It felt like shooting a .243, with the max. 220 gr.! It was a great application as there is a LOT of propulsion gasses that are negated. It was great.

There is a lot of surplus .50 BMG and even 20mm cannon powder out there as cost saving surplus. Some of that (the fastest of the super slow) coupled with Federal #215 Magnum Primers and a 180 gr. or heavier bullet is a very rewarding combination. The .338 has limited capacity for it but the 250 gr. bullets help even things out. You may not get the advertised factory performance but close enough for great economy. The more you can shoot the better performance you can show when cash is on the line. I also find recoil and blast is reduced compared to factory ammo.

I like the .300 WBY but have to admit the .338 is a favorite of mine. I've had several and still have a BAR semi-auto .338 around. But it's not Africa legal for sure.
