Africa. I'm interested in what the normal range your shots

He was shooting farther than the normal 100 yds. that we usually focus on. It's pretty easy with a rifle and not that hard with a good specialty handgun, well practiced. But he did not feel confident enough to risk his personal skill and wound an animal past that. So he used a rifle, even borrowed that long range custom .300 WM.

His 9.3x62 Mauser was good to 200 easy but he shot something close to 300 with the Remington. This is making us re-think our armament. Not that we don't have LR stuff but around here it is not used as much in the Arkansas hills, save for special Bean field shooting in the flatland.

I have a custom Mauser .30-06 and a .416 Rigby BRNO. I know what the 06' can manage, it just lacks romance. Hawk and Barnes both make 300 gr. .416 bullets I can push to 2600 fps and mimic the 06' trajectory. Now I need more scope than my current Leupold 1.5-5x. Doug is thinking of having Gary re-do his .340 Weatherby MKV. I still can't commit at this time but I can fantasize a little.

of hunting with a revolver, keep that in mind. I had a SRH in 429 GNR with me, but just used the Contender. A good PH will get you to 100 yards but closer than that is a trick and a bit of luck. Not much cover there. Also depends on what you want to shoot. Kudu, Wildebeest and Gemsbock are elk sized animals and they wont go down easy on the first shot.
