For the folks that took rifles to Africa (& others)

the high seats in back and you don't have to be in a drastic hurry. Most of the time you are going to go for a short hike anyway.

I bought a rifle from Kase. I knew it was right as soon as I picket it up and shouldered it. My eyes opened right down the sights. The barrel is only 20". I'm more concerned with my abilities with it than the portability but it has that no matter. 9 lbs. with scope and light sling.

That was one notable thing Doug told me, the sling tid-bit. Another subjective issue. Determent or help? One rifle they used was unusually weighty which no doubt really assisted the accurate shooting. But on a long stalk, it had a sling BTW, it cut into the shoulder and became uncomfortable. Also ANY NOISE was greatly discouraged. So does your sling set up squeak? Lots of things to sort.

I don't know about all the varied elements but I love to plan and speculate, test views. My current debacle is the large bore and medium trajectory of my piece. I think I can extend it to 300 yds. via specialty lighter high velocity bullets and a change of scope. If I can find one that retains a bit longer eye relief! I need at least 4" so I don't get my spectacles pecked.

My rig as is, currently set up for AK or close up to 200 yds. I want to potentially extend that by 100 yds. Looking to change to 300 gr./2700 fps bullets and a 2.5-10X scope perhaps. I found a 2" canvas sling too that I want to try. At least it gives me a current diversion to pursue my fantasy. However, a good .338 Mag. would cure lots of problems. This is about the same OAL as a police cruiser's pump shotgun.

I chose to use primitive type rifles and didn't see any disadvantage. But, they all were shorter due to action style.

Like Gary said, you'll stalk most game on foot.
