A few changes to the 300 Weatherby...
I took the rifle from the stock this morning and gave the gun a good cleaning. It wasnt bad, but squeaky clean now.
The muzzle brake is very classy. It too needed a good cleaning. But, now its as good as new.
I polished all the contacting parts to a mirrow finish on the trigger mechanism. Then all parts were treated with Tetra Lube.
I recently traded into a new Leupold 4-12x which is well suited to this gun. So, off with the 3-9x.
In mounting the new scope, I used three vertically split steel rings. This looks great and gives a bit more support.
A blessing the last owner had used rings that left the 3-9x scratch free. Will probably be on a certain Reeder Rifle soon.
The package came out phenomenal. I really love the Estate and Saturday Sales. You just have to beat Winn and Doug.

Can there be a perfect all rounder?
A rifle that is capable to reach afar with great precision without undue bulk, and still be able to do for 50 yd. in the deep wood shots? Waste is a pity, efficiency rules provided it's plenty. Seems something .30-06 class northward (half ounce bullets available?) and a 4-12x scope might be close.
Man, I think 300 yds. would be about my limit under about any condition. I almost(!) took a shot at a Red Stag once at a lazered 268 yds. with my FA .378 GNR cranked to 8X. But a Stag is a pretty big critter too, and I had a good rest. I later took him at 100 yd. So that's my "Handgun" All-rounder!
Happy times with my hunting partner Steve Oliver. (FWIW - Steve was later killed in a farming accident, run over by a batwing bush-hog and 90 hp tractor. Several Misfits knew him from the Y-O) His son, Ben Oliver, runs a Hunting themed bar in KS City called "The Lodge" sporting his father's Africa Trophys.
