Lipsey's has a limited edition Ruger #1. 24" lightweight barrel and quite a rare variation of Alexander Henry forearm, no sights and barrel band.

Beautiful wood to boot. My resistance is really low on #1s.

Personally I'm not as rosy as others about 6.5mm anything unless it has a 160 gr. JRN bullet. I KNOW what that will do. The 130 gr. Accu-bond did pretty well from the 6.5X55 and a custom Encore barrel handgun. But it's a very tough bullet, needs speed so it does not behave like an ice-pick.

The ballistics of the Creedmore are not any better than the 6.5 Sweede are they? Just a more efficient case design? Why is it so much better than the .260 Remington (.264-08)?

Ive been in love with the 6.5x55 since 1983. Have a #1 RSI in that cartridge too.

Also have 6.5x54MS and 6.5 Grendels in TCs.

The 6.5s have a long and distinguished history, so they don't need my defense.

The 6.5 Creedmoor is a fine cartridge. The only issue is left handed gun writers subversion. But, that history is as long as the 6.5s in general.

Appreciate what a cartridge can do than what it can't do.

I had another customer try to talk me out of a 17 HMR CZ because his friend had lost a big hog he shot with one.

Another was bashing a 223 Remington poly tip load because it tore up too much meat on rabbits.

One thing about a #1 is a longer barrel is less over all length.
Also the 257 is a lot cheaper by $420 then the 6.5. What is not to like.

I always liked the double radius of the Weatherby cartridges which is said to cause turbulence and allow more powder to burn inside the case.

Have a MKV in .270 and Vanguards in .257 and .300. The #1 in .257 would fit in very nicely..

amount of bullshit on the internet. Earlier this week a young fellow came in asking what we had in the 6.5 Creedmore. He put in for bull elk and wanted to use it on elk. We told him it was not enough power for elk. He let us know we didn't know our asses from third base, that the internet said it was a great hunting cartridge for everything up to elk. My Irish temper got the better of me and I let him know what I thought of the internet experts and what I thought of dumb asses that believe them. He probably won't be back.

When they came out, the gunwriters praised their superiority over the 25s until they were on life support.

But, my affection for the 6.5s is strong. It is a very efficient design similar to the old 300 Savage.

I like the long throat and ability to seat the bullets to the base of the neck.

I believe this will be an excellent rifle.

and I know the European guys take Stags and Smaller Elk with the 6.5 but it is not a cannon. Bell shot Elefunts with the 6.5 and so on....

I DO admire the traits of design thought that went into the case for efficiency and bullet support for accuracy. But the pill still pops out the muzzle at a speed not much more than my 7mm GNR 13" barreled handgun. It's hard to get all goose bumpy for me about that.

telling us the 243 is fine for Elk. I do wish the Game & Fish dept would put a minimum caliber for Elk, Desert Bighorn and such here in AZ. Every year after the season I see dead elk here and there that were wounded and left to die. Really pisses me off.

That I also read that there is a new medical process for people to get glass belly buttons installed and they might want to consider it since their heads are so far up their asses they need to be able to look out and see where they are going!

from hunting for life. I have seen Elk take a 300 Win Mag thru the lungs and run for 2 miles. Colleen shot a big one with her 300 at the point of shoulder and he ran off. We finally got up on him and she put him down with a lo neck shot. A 243 is absolutely not enough gun except in the perfect spot (a head shot) and that shot seldom happens.

A little common sense goes a long ways.

One article will say 243 Win is good for elk. Next page says you need at least a 300 ShortMag for whitetail.

I used to hog hunt a lot. Used a Marlin 1894 in 357 Mag. Never fired a finishing shot. Range was never over 100 yards.

I have thought about a No 1 in 338 Norma 28", varmint profile barrel. My 'smith thinks it would be quite "doable", and shootable. I have a 31" PacNor SS match blank in storage ...
Am I crazy?

My 'smith is a mature gentleman, about a week younger than I, so I call him "Young Feller"
With gentlemen like you and he, I tend to speak of the project, lay out my ideas, and let the Professionals get on with it. I've never been disappointed working that way, nor would I tell you "how to". Respect where due, Sir.
I just like the idea of reaching across a canyon to hammer an Elk, or some such, with such a rifle.

broke down and got a 257 roberts #1 RSI in stainless and the #1A stainless in 30-30. Regrettably tapped out for a bit. Hope some are still out there in a few months in the creedmoor. Number 1s are my favorite and I already have 2 in 6.5x55 (1As in blue and stainless). The 6.5 Creedmoor doesn't do anything these will but it is in a rare configuration.
