with most bullets. Seems today guys want faster twist tubes for heavy for caliber slugs. But a slower twist more conventional tube using .22 cal. 30 gr. projectiles and modern slow powders who knows how fast the AI could manage?! I htink the .220 did it's best with 50 gr.?

The .204 is very interesting and efficient for it's size and report. I like it a lot. It would actually be my pick of the bunch. The others have the blast of a 7mm Mag.! You'd get weary quick in dog town I'd bet.

there is always a wind out here, not quite as bad as Wyoming, but lightweight bullets are useless. The same goes for a 50 grain bullet. You need 60 or a bit better to buck the wind and even then quite often I had to hold one dog to the side (2") to hit the one I was aiming at, sometimes even 2 dogs to one side if the wind was really moving. A Prairie Dog is about the size of an old fashioned Coke bottle. A 30 grain bullet would be as useful as tits on a chicken out here.

that shows me how much wind there is and from which direction it's coming from. If the thread sticks out 3 or 4 inches from straight down, I know to hold 2 or 3 dogs to one side.

but I didn't think the 4200 fps pills were in the air as long so don't have as much wind drift influence? I only shot a ...... at about 200 yds. once with a .204. I really like it, efficient, quiet, super flat shooting. But that's why you have good excuse to have several rifles.

My new neighbor, has a 22-250 AI in a single shot 40X Remington action, 26 inch Douglas barrel and says 1/2 inch at 100. Is this a good configuration?

We use to shoot them in the Los Padres National Forest. I used a Browning 78 with a Lyman 36X scope.
You could lay down on a ridge and shoot the ones to the left and when they went in, move around and shoot the ones to the right. Some of the them were shot out to 400 yards.

Then we cleaned up the picnic area by Tony walking out in front of the pickup and taking the ones on the run with his trap gun. Fun times.

I have a 22-250 AI with a 26" barrel. I shoot 55 grain Nosler BT's at 3800 fps. and it groups a hair over 1/4" at 100 yards. I could push them faster, but I like the long case life of shooting reasonable loads in the 22-250 AI.
The gun loves 63 grain Sierra's as well shooting those into 1/4" groups as well.

22" max. For 22-250 Imp you don't need a super long barrel. That is one of the things Ackley's design does for you. The sharp shoulder on the improved case holds the burn back a micro second and you can get the velocity with a shorter barrel.

I use a .243 with 70 gr bullets for longer range.
They aren’t all that smart from my experience. Might go down for a few minutes but are right back out.

build 2 varmint rifles on Winchester 70 actions in 22-250 Improved. I put Burris 8X32X40 scopes on them for long range Prairie Dog shooting. I have shot literally thousands of rounds thru the one of mine and contrary to what the "experts" say the throat is not shot out. It still shoots half inch groups at 100. I shoot 62 grain jacketed in it and it does great with them. I drive out into a Prairie Dog town, put a blanket on the hood of the Bronco, stack sandbags on it and shoot all day. i have gone thru almost 500 rounds in one day and there were still hundreds of pasture poodles still there when I left. The 22-250 Improved is probably my favorite rifle round.

It is odd shooting something so blast offensive that has very little recoil. My last one was a braked 15" .22-250 AI handgun, no fun to shoot at all! Roman said it was like someone slapping you in the face with a wet towel. lol

Doug once briefly had an old 03' custom thumbhole .22-250 with an antique Lyman 36X on it. The eye relief was about 1". Every time I'd shoot the 10 lb. beast it would peck my glasses. They do have minuscule recoil.
