would pass along. A fellow came in the shop with one of the 80% AR-15s that he wanted to sell. We told him it was illegal for him to sell that gun as it had no markings on it, no maker, no serial number etc. He said he bought it from a friend. The gist of this is if someone offers to sell you one of the 80% guns he has put together himself, stay away from it. The ATF is currently deciding how to go on this. It is legal for you to buy an 80% lower and build the gun yourself but you can never sell it. Unfortunately there are a lot of wannabe gunsmiths buying the 80% lowers and building guns and selling them. That is illegal and can get you in trouble. One of our Misfits is a big dog in the Dallas ATF and he passed this info along to us.

Thank you Gary for the PSA!

available that is going to cause lots of problems. It will be probably closer to 60% finished with lots of things that have to be perfect for the gun to work, that are not done on the gun. And unless a person has lots of equipment, milling machine etc, they are going to have nothing but a headache. Plus it has none of the 4 things required by law, which are the Maker's Name, model name, caliber and most important the serial number. If the owner gets pulled over for a traffic stop and they see a gun with no serial number, the owner is going to jail. He will probably get out after spending $20,000 on a lawyer. These 80% guns are just a disaster looking for a place to happen.

plus the person buying the kit can only buy one and cannot

I would build one just because ....EXCEPT I can buy a functioning legal one for half the price of the kits! If I could get an 80% kit for a couple hundred it would be a Fun DIY project. As it stands, the kits don't make money sense to me.

Sounds like a quick way to jail.
