I guess I got had in away, got a great deal on an old model Super Blackhawk. I got to playing with it, and found the hammer extremely light, not sure if it has been fooled with, but figured out while cocked if I push down hammer and release it falls to the half-cock notch. Major safety issue for me, if'n it is the notch/sear engagement, is it repairable?

sure, as long as the "gunsmiths" didn't take too much

metal off the hammer or trigger or both. Shouldn't be any big job. If you have a good gunsmith near you, he should be able to take care of it.

Much obliged, that will be the most likely scenario, been trying to figure what all I want done to a couple others I have. I've been enamored by your work for years, I use to have clippings from Shotgun News hanging in my room as a younger fellow. Never had much for mentors as far as guns and reloading. I'm pretty much self taught at shooting, reloading and casting. I have a huge admiration of firearms and even more so for those who have created and perfected them.
