We shot a .32-20 with 120 gr. bullets

and it went over 2200 fps! That's probably only about 15% less than a .30-30 rifle at best, while using less than half the powder. The ability of a suitably modern loaded little round is impressive. It's mostly due to advanced loading techniques (slow magnum pistol powder in the .32/20, rifle pressures too) and the poor showing of the .30-30 case as to efficiency. The .25-35, also on the .30-30 parent case, cannot muster much better with a 120 gr. pill at standard pressures.

Many of the GNR custom cartridges make such a grand showing owing to purposeful case design efficiency.
