Reeder Custom Guns - 6.5 GNR vs 6.5mm BRM?

I was at a friend house and he gave me a dummy round of the 6.5mm BRM. When I got home I tried it in your 6.5 GNR barrel, do you think it would be safe to fire that round in your 6.5 GNR barrel? Is this round OK for a G2 frame?

It looked sound to me and I think those rounds were actually based upon the .30 American (?) which was a .30-30 with a small primer. Of course a normal .30-30 case would work too. They had very long necks if I remember and did not max out on capacity.

The BF pistol was designed and manufactured by Burt Stringfellow. He tried to sell me one in 1985. He sold it to Eban Auther Brown in 1989, I think.
Come on misfits, practice safe loading practices and safe shooting practices. NEVER shoot a shell in a gun chambered for another cartridge.

We've been doing that since the Kilburn, Mashburn and Ackley days.

Gary simply said he wasn't familiar with the 6.5 BRM. I wouldn't recommended it if unfamiliar either.

The 6.5 BRM is just another full length 30-30 case necked to 6.5mm and fireformed.

I can name the 6.5x30-30 Ackley, 6.5x30 JDJ, 6.5 GNR, 6.5 Bullberry Imp. and the 6.5 BRM right offhand. Maybe others?

To me it's just great. Everybody has their own twist on a great idea. Keeps it interesting to me.

I will say it was a brave soul that fired that first round in an improved chamber. But, damn I'm glad he did.

Fireforming is an accepted safe reloading practice. I have done it many times. original .338 JDJ, 7GNR, 30Gnr, 355 GNR.

Makes a bit longer case with more consistent neck thickness.

I load a factory 30-30 cartridge, pull the trigger. Makes a perfectly formed case with very little recoil.

and me back in the late 70s. Lee came out with the 6.5 Jurras and wasn't satisfied with it. I decided to play around with it and then changed it quite a bit, shorter neck, straight case, sharper shoulder and it became the 6.5 GNR. To be honest it flopped. There was no interest in it so I dropped it. A couple of years ago so many folks were 6.5 crazy and asking for more 6.5 cartridges that I brought it back. So realistically it was Lee's brainchild. I just nurtured it a bit.

it is basically fireforming that long necked .30-30 based BRM to GNR specs. I also found that JD's 7mm, forget what it's called, based also on the .30-30 fit in my gun at the Y-O. My partner was using a JDJ 7mm something-or-other and his ammo fit my gun but not the other way around.

It's kind of like shooting .300-H&H in a .300 Wby. or the .30-30 in a .30 GNR.

All of Gary's .30-30 based rounds had the excellent G2 chassis in mind. The capacity is perfect for the gun. Some of the .405 based rounds CAN be loaded too hot for it and would need the Encore chassis. I ONCE mixed .338 GNR ammo and about ate a empty case as the recoil opened the action.
