Gary, I have one of the TC made in Rochester 12" 44 mag Barrels. Two questions:
1) Would it be a good candidate to convert to 429 GNR and
2) I will need a brake installed so if we do that to the last 2" will 10" of remaining barrel be adequate for the cartridge ?
Thanis
Grover the 429 GNR is too hot for the Contender

the pressures are near that of the 454 so way too much for the Contender.
I know the .41 GNR #2 is the .410 GNR alternative

For the contender, having a smaller area case head and capacity through length. Is the .445 SM possible in the Contender? If so you could also shoot shorter .44's. Only one I had was for an Encore.
The .429 GNR in the Encore is far greater than it's size would lead you to think! Not too far off the .444 Marlin.
Thanks WB, will get a 41 GNR or 41GNR #2

extremely compressed, the pressure in the 41 GNR#2 is down to a level where it is fine in the Contender or G-2. The same holds true with the 445 Super Mag with reasonable loads.

You can do a 445 SM in a contender. You have to be careful loading. A heavy(over 300gr)bullet with a heavy charge of even the correct (H-110, 269,1680) powder and you will pop the frame. I have a barrel and LOVE it.![[image]](images/uploaded/201806052239515b171137e2bdf.jpg)
the .41#2 is a lot nicer with the brake-- my 9"
