Another neat couple old beaters...

Doug and I both like the big frame Colt New Service. I guess if for no other reason than it's not a S&W. I always root for the underdog and the NS was a mainstay for large bore handgunning in all sorts of service until really the advent of the .44 Magnum. I believe they were once issued to the Border Patrol in .357. What a big heavy duty service revolver!

Doug has had the benefit from several of mine and his own testing the flavors. This one is a honey, 5-1/2" in .44 WCF. It's almost humorous to us how soft shooting it seems today with the full 200 gr. at a bit under 1000 fps. How did we ever see it as a big bore hulking cannon?!

This 100 yr. old example is tight as new and fired little. Pristine bore and lots of the old fire blue showing through. The wood grips are a little unique as most were the old composite material. It is a pleasure to handle and shoot. I'd just have to have a period grip adapter though, too hard for me to reach without changing my grip.
