Reeder Custom Guns - Carbide canon

I’m trying to find plans to make a carbide canon for thr Fourth of July. When I was a kid many of the boys had the “real deal” store bought canons, but some had homemade canons. I’d like to make my own homemade canon, maybe out of plastic pipe. Does anyone have suggestions or plans about how to build one. Gary, delete this if you don,t allow this discussion on your board.

And absolutely no bore obstruction or projectile. Pressures skyrocket and are super erratic if there is an airspace between the explosion and obstruction.

I remember seeing an old Val Forgett article where they filled a .58 cal ML barrel completely full of FFg, 28" of it then seated the bullet. Set it off and it held together. Then they put a charge in it and short seated the bullet. It blew like dynamite. Not exactly on topic but a lesson in the physics. I'd look for proven formal plans and instructions you can trust from a good source.

Now I'm heck with a schedule 40 PVC potato cannon and some hairspray....

great uncle) used to fish with calcium carbide, the stuff they used in miner's helmets. he would get a big baby food jar, fill it half way with sand then put 2 tablespoons of carbide in there. He then would put 2 tablespoons of water in there, seal the lid real quick and pitch it in the creek. In a bit the jar exploded and some big fish would float to the surface. He picked out the ones he liked and the others came back to and wiggled off with a helluva headache.

brother didn't use anything fancy, just threw some dynamite in the lake. DNR caught him and took some of his fish, and told him to enjoy the rest. People needed to eat.
