Elmer Keith and Gil Hibben designed bowie knife. These knives were given in the 1960s as a premium for a subscription to Guns and Ammo magazine. Made in Japan and plainly marked on the left side of the blade near the hand guard, they were 9 3/4 inches overall length, had a 5-inch blade with a blood groove on each side of the blade, solid brass hand guard and hilt, aluminum spacers between leather washers on the handle. The knife came with a heavy scabbard, sculpted along the sewn and riveted edge and had a belt loop at the top rear side.

The steel may be ok. I have one given to me by a dear friend. It has the sharpness of a butter knife. I've always wanted to goet a proper knife guy, like Bill Snow etc. to re-grind the blade for me into a proper angle and sharpness.
Keith DID design a proper heavy hunting knife that Gil Hibben sort of copied for the masses. Otherwise it is a very expensive custom proposition. But Keith did influence a "Keith" type hunting knife, almost forgotten today.
