Reeder Custom Guns - That SSM Trail Gun Conversion....

I chose .40 S&W which may seem odd to some. I really thought about the .38 Super which I think is a great innovative idea by GNR. You may not have to mod the loading gate too much on most guns. That is the bad part about modern Single-Six since the transfer bar is in there. Grind too much and you open a window to it. The teeny rim .38 Super is a natural and may be about the same diameter as a .32 rim?! Brilliant idea. (My doner gun was a .32 Magnum SSM anyway)

But the .38 Super in standard loading is not that much over the .327. The .40 sounded more exotic with a bit more distance over a hot .32, plus who's got one of those? I think kept to .38 Special velocities with 180 gr. or less bullets it would be a really neat shooter with some thump without stress.

I think Huey has one but he's so ga-ga over the others he don't talk about it too much. LOL But that's all good too. For my money and outlay I decided on a little bigger bore, sort of a .40 Special if you will. I find the .327 a bit intense in blast for causal shooting, so a milder round might just be what I'd like.

and 10mm can run $30/100. Performance wise in a revolver there is not that much. I can seat the bullet out to 10mm OAL and I'm there with cheap brass.

Normally you could do that to the 10mm also but not in a shorter window SSM.

I was thinking I had it all ciphered out and was a smart feller for it. But I often fool myself.

Both are excellent built sidearms. You can most certainly seat bullets long in the 10mm Auto. I seat the 180 grn Berrys Hybrid very long and not a hint of bullet slip.

Id highly recommend adding a 10mm cylinder as Gary suggests. But, as you point out, the 40 S&W can do a lot. I can send you enough 10mm brass to sink a ship.

Yeah I was torn about that too. But so much free .40 brass
