Reeder Custom Guns - 22 revolver help? Is there any 22 ammo Misfits

have had better luck with than others? My only 22 handgun is a SW 34 and it is fantastic. However, the chambers get dirty within 50 rounds making loading and extraction difficult (in the case of loading dang near impossible). Would polishing or having the chambers reamed help? I'd rather just find ammo that runs cleaner than have any mods done (since it's 60 years old). I'm used to being able to fire hundreds of rounds out of K, L, and N frame center-fire guns with no isses between cleanings. Are the modern 617's and GP 100's finicky as well? I had an 8 shot 43C and the extraction on it would get pretty sticky pretty quick. Thanks for listening!

it so with all the ammo I tried. Just have to stop and wipe the face of the cylinder and the forcing come clean.

I also had a 6" Colt Diamondback in 22 LR. In my guns the chambers gummed up badly and I had to constantly brush the clean for them to work smoothly. Maybe just my guns or maybe the Colt rimfires were tighter chambers.

a different answer. On the plus side I've found a .270 bore brush gets the chambers clean quickly!

I bought about 10k rounds of this Federal #510 LR ammo. Really nasty stuff, leads too. I took some LEE liquid Alox and with my fingers (perhaps a Q-tip would be better, or your fingers will smell funny) applied the thinnest coating on the external lubed LR projectiles. Don't get it on the brass casings.

Man did it help that cheap ammo! No more leading. However, you could over do that Alox stuff pretty easy and get things gummy. I did a couple boxes at a time and let them dry overnight. It might be fun to try and see if it helps or hurts the issue.

Will try a spotless gun and Mini Mags only when I get the chance.

some special Condor Ammo from Kalifornia. It was really fast too, 1650 fps from a rifle rather than 1200. The bullet was the same size as a 40 gr. but tin is light and seemingly softer. The ammo goo'd my barrels. I wanted to try the Alox trick with it but only had one 50 rnd. box.

the black nose lead bullet. You are just asking for problems. Stay with any of the copper or brass looking bullets like the Mini Mags or Stingers etc. The black nose bullets are very soft lead and leave lots of crap and residue in your gun.

matter who makes it. Just keep a 22 caliber brush handy and brush the cylinders out every now and then. Never ever put any oil or any other liquids in the cylinder as you never get it all out and it attracts unburned powder and burned powder residue and gums up the gun. Always make sure the area under the star extractor is clean and dry. Never ever put any oil under the extractor. I very seldom clean my guns unless I drop them in the sand or they get wet in a storm but even then I never ever put oil in my guns. Oil is the worst thing you can put in a gun, any gun. I take a toothpick and put a tiny bit of good grease like Rig Universal grease on the ratchet and then wipe most of it off. People do more harm to their guns constantly taking them apart and cleaning them. If one of my guns gets gummy, I wipe them down with a rag with some Rig 2 or Rem Oil on it and then wipe most of that off. I run dry brushes down the barrel. I like the Bore Snake. That will do 99% of the work needed on a gun.

have some oil in them. I will stop that! I run all my barrels dry anymore anyway, so it should be easy enough! My 34 recently went to my local Smith with a bent extractor rod, and I was surprised and somewhat disappointed at how oily it was when it came back. Thanks Gary.
