Anyone have any experience with the Cva hunter pistols in 357 or 44? Have seen a few re chamberd to 357 maximum. Would these be a good candidate for a 356 gnr or 429 gnr? Appears the 356 gnr can outperform the 357 max.

not familiar with the CVA pistols. The rifles are a bit

soft, but they are black powder so it really doesn't matter. But not familiar with the handguns. And the 356 GNR is 1½ times the power of the 357 Magnum. It will run the 180 grain bullets faster than the 357 Magnum will put a 125 grain bullet out.It is in some cases the same power as the 357 Maximum but tends to beat it in some loads.
The 356 GNR was Lee Jurras' favorite handgun caliber and I consider him the expert on high powered handgun hunting rounds.

Thought it would be neat to have one of these cut down to 8 or 9 inches like your Pirate guns are, and maybe re chamberd to the 356 Gnr. Can pick one of these up usually under $300, do you think the metal may be to soft for the 356 Gnr? I have seen some re chamberd to the longer 357 Maximum, but im sure 41 magnum brass is cheaper than it is.
And anything Lee Jurras approved of is enough for me! Great man that paved the way for what we have today.

if the pistol is good hardened steel, which I am sure it is

if it is on the market in 357, then it should be fine. We chamber it in S&W 357 magnum model 27 and 28 with no problems and they are not super strong.

Depends on how they are manufactured. Gary wont rechamber any of the handi-rifles because the lugs are welded on and harden the steel. Eats up his reamers.

the new Handi Rifles use a different type of welding,

more like a laser that doesn't harden the steel like the old fashion welding did. I am still a bit hesitant to try to rechamber them. I did one new one a bit ago to the 30 GNR and it did fine but I was sweating it the whole time.

If you think its to soft or risky, my old 357 Blackhawk may be getting the re work since I already have it.

I would recommend the Blackhawk for the conversion
