Reeder Custom Guns - Got my dirt in the Boss' ditch it seems..

Water entrance line busted between the meter and the house. I took a look at the water bill when I got home and it was $95 dollars. As it was after 5pm and too late to rent a ditch witch, I grabbed a shovel and started digging. It's roughly 40 ft. I got about 2/3 dug up last night. started up again around 6:30 am. I got about 10ft left to get to the meter. I plan to replace the whole line as I found the line is schedule 40 pipe. I've gotten within 4ft of a tree and roots are slowing me down. The meter is within 3ft of the tree. I'm sure that's where the actual problem is. I may have to get the Water Company to move the meter away form the tree.

So,.. another day I won't get any shooting done. I got a box of shells loaded just waiting for me. But, as long as the Lord provides work for me to do I feel like He's keeping out of some kind of trouble. So I'm not arguing. Complaining, but not arguing.

I hate you went all banzai on it. If you want to replace with 3/4" copper you will need a 50' roll that costs about $4 a foot last I checked. The Schedule 40 is typically repaired with two glue couplings and a section of new pipe, about a $5 repair or $20 if you have to buy cleaner and glue plus the fittings. It's actually good stuff. FWIW.

To move the meter they will have to re-tap the main and install a threaded corporation stop valve. Usually it cost the same as a new meter set, $400 (?). I'd not hold my breath on that.

So far you are out labor and a couple Snickers bars. You might consider just fixing the broken Sch. 40. It may be leaking at the meter box. Has anyone run over it? That pushes the box down and onto the pipes. Happens a lot. And then you may have a pressure reducer or hand valve on your side too. All points of possible leakage/split fittings.

I found the leak. If it weren't for the roots I'd fix the sch 40 pipe and keep trucking. Also, meter has roots on both sides. And the line has broken in the road twice in the last 5 years. At some point the water company will have to deal with the meter or the line going to it again. This is the 3rd leak in 10 years on my side line. The roots are just really bad. So this time I was determined to do a better job from the meter to the house. I'm going to drop the Sch 80 in and cover it with road salt. I've dropped salt on septic drain lines with the same issue and no had problems since. On the Sch 40 vs the Sch 80, to my mind its really an issue with the roots and the 80 just handling that better if the pipe gets pushed around. I could be wrong on that, but I'd feel like I did something smart anyways.

All mu cutoffs are in the old pump house. All that looks good. And the meter is safe from being run over or parked on.

A lot of home insurance company's will cover this from meter to home. Might want to check. Good luck, if not, replacing the PVC is the least expensive way to go as WB recommended
