use long and shorts to kill hogs with. It was cheaper than anything else except for a big hammer and it was easier to shoot them hehind the ear into the brain pan. The longs and the short .22s would rattle around in the head and not ruin any meat that way. First time I used a .22 long rifle it went all the way through and the hog started squealing then. Dad just used a .22 short to drop it. I hated hog killing then because we had to scald them, scrap them, then gut them..... What a stink.. Fond memories of childhood and my faithful .22 single shot Stevens by dad bought for me.
