I have been using White’s Detectors for over 20 years now. I have two, one an analog that has deeper ground penetration and the other is a digital which is easier to use. There are several cheaper brands but like in Gary’s guns, you get what you pay for. She will need in addition to her detector, ear phones that match the detector, a hand held detector for pin pointing detections in dug up dirt, a bag with big rollers to carry her shovel and other digging gear, a coarse sifter and a fine sifter for sifting out the small detections like coins etc found in sand. Go to the Whites website and look at their how to books and check ebay for used detectors. Hope this helps as there is nothing like finding a coin over 100 years old or a spanish coin or artifact in the sand along a beach in Florida, the East Coast, or the Gulf of Mexico. Do not know much about the West coast as I have never detected there. Good luck with the hobby.
