AZ tree squirrel hunting

I have enjoyed hunting squirrels since I was about 10 years old (in Tennessee) and also hunted them in Louisiana. Now that I am fully retired I want to hunt here in Arizona . Any tips on where to hunt I live in Tucson but can travel anywhere in the state. Seems the season opens October 7 and I usually use a .17 rimfire scoped rifle but have other options. Any info would be great D. Huey

Kaibab Squirrels three years ago on a trip to the SW. I kinda wished I sprung for an AZ small game license to see if I could bag a few.

For the fun of it I looked this up and came up with this :

It appears that they like the higher elevations of the state.

Ironically Connecticut opened up today for gray squirrel. I did go out but missed. Way out of practice.

too. Hunted them around Aztec Pike or anywhere in the White Mountains.

in the Sierra Ancha's ... up above Globe. The last I killed up there was with a 7.50 x 16 snow tire ... got him with the rear wheel of my truck.
