1911 7 inch barrels

in combat shooting. I did a lot of work on it back then as we didn't have all the accessories that we have now. We built and put an extended slide release and extended safety and a beavertail on it and ported it in my shop. I put a cone on the barrel and dumped the bushing and that helped with the accuracy. Plus new sights. So it really isn't an AMT Longslide anymore. It functions perfectly without a jam. I don't know if the 7" barrel helps a lot or not. I like it and I guess that is all that matters. The 7" barrels are quite expensive and not sure if they are beneficial enough to warrant the extra expense. Plus they require a hot round to function it. I use a grain over max on my loads for combat shooting to make sure it functions 100% of the time. As of a few years ago I had a bit over 70,000 rounds thru it since 1978 and haven't had to replace a single part.
