I remember Gus Gillespie in AK telling me they had to sometimes have look outs with shotguns watch for Grizzlies while they skinned out animals. Shooting in the air to keep them back. You can keep your Bears and I'll stick to my box of Copperheads here in the South.

we are all gonna die and I can think of no better way than doing something I enjoy. I do not want to spend my last days sucking on an oxygen bottle and pooping in a diaper.
As the ancient writer said, "Let me die the death of the righteous. Let my end be like his."
I pray that it was quick!

something. That looks like a good one. They are not bad snakes, last I skinned had (3) mice in it. BUT they are so durn hard to see, even looking right at them. I hear the bite itches something awful, like a wasp sting after the hurt is over. I hate itching and have no desire to try it.
I cannot imagine (actually I experienced it for one week) being scared spitless to go to the chicken pen in the dark or worry about my kids out in the yard. Must be some different kind of life and mindset.
I use them for backing primitive bows or decorating

We usually kill a couple every year in the yard here. 4 last year, 2 so far this year, but we havent been saving them, not even the rattles anymore.
If you tell me where to send them and how you want them processed i’ll send them when it happens. Toddclara7@gmail.com.
I need to know how to treat the hides too.

I slit its belly with a razor and just peeled it off. We put salt on it to dry the skin out and after it dried rolled it up. I read you can put Glycerine (you get it at the drug store) on both sides to keep it pliable and together.
No Glycerine. Just tac pin the skin to a

piece of cardboard and let it dry. I take them and soak them in a thin mixture of natural hide glue then apply. You shouldnt need salt unless its a wet season, but that doesnt hurt them. I can wash that off and then soak in the hide glue. Once it goes into glycerin then it cant be easily applied to a bow.
Ok, sounds easy.

I may have a Copperhead but I know I have what's left of a Timber Rattler I shot the whizz out of with a 10mm. It was invisible at the base of that old Oak tree the edge of my yard. The Mouser Cat found it and let us all know.
Send me your shipping info when I get another couple

Lions or a bear over that many snakes!
Copperheads are the ones around my neck of the woods to be on the lookout for. Theres a few timber rattlers scattered about but hardly anyone has a run in with them.
take a leisure nightly stroll and come upon them
