older Contenders and they were from shooting extremely hot loads. Had nothing to do with bad workmanship nor poor welding. A small gap is no problem, especially with rimmed cases. Rim thicknesses vary a lot these days and getting a barrel to lock up flush is a real job sometime. We have a 30-30 factory barrel in here now to run out to 30 GNR and I can easily get a business card in between the face of the action and the rear of the barrel. And that is before we even start to rechamber it to 30 GNR.
