Reeder Custom Guns - Anyone have input on red dot sights

For hunting. My pop is thinking about one on a handgun. I am thinking one on my Rossi leverhun might be handy.

The smallest mos dot the better anything over 3 mos is for steel competition only. The 3 mos is good to 50 yards or so. I like the fast fire 3 that Gary sells stupid rugged they are have 3 different light settings including auto will not time out. And will blink every so often when the battery gets low so I am told. I have 3 or 4 of them and have had them for many years and have yet to change the battery. But I remember to turn them off when I store the guns. $.02

And if you can still see well at a distance than they work great with out perception eye glasses!

but I forget the MOA, I think it might have been 6 MOA which is a 3" dot at 50 yds. Might be OK for a semi-auto where 50 is about my max.

A 3 MOA would be 1.5" dot at 50, and a 3/4" at 25 yds. That does sound better to me.

The cold kills the battery real quick so vortex has them with etched glass.

and has the option of replacement MOA dot “modules”. A big full hoop gives a great sight picture.

44 mag. It was an AT3 Tactical 1 MOA. Worked great out to 100 yards. Gave that gig to my boy. I had another one that is a JM.

My experience is with eoh-tech on an m-4. It puts you target faster short and long distances. Used the dot and ring for elevation hold on longer distances 4-5 c yds. You what they say about practice.

Go with one of the better brands. The most popular seems to be the Burris Fast Fire 3, and I agree. Personally I would stay away from the cheaper brands totally. I also don't have a good opinion of the Vortex. Too many problems with their scopes and that leaves a bad taste in my mouth toward any of their products. Personal opinion only .

I have 3 of them on guns and they are all the Burris Fast Fire 3. Never had any problems with them.

Im my Humble opinion and experience:

I have played with these red dots for last three years. Trijicon, Leupold, Burris, and vortex. The Leupold is my favorite as it is clear. No tainted glass. The burris FF3 is my next favorite. All have the smallest dot they come with. The trijicon would not handle the recoil of the Desert Eagle 50ae. Leupold and burris FF3 did. The vortex razor would not hold up on my BFR 500S&W but the other two did. If I had to choose one based on value however I would go with the Burris Fastfire 3. For the money it the best.

They are super fast and accurate. With that 45-70 1.5 to 2 inch groups are common out to 100yds. The handgun, well it out shoots me! I would like to see it in somebodies hands like Gary's as I bet he could make it a one holer at 25-50yds. I have shot this handgun at 100yds with the red dot and 4-6 inch groups are very common.

Hope this helps. I use them because of my eyes are getting older and have trouble focusing on iron sights!
