Reeder Custom Guns - the 08 is always behind the 06

my 06 is loaded with H4350/150 BT at 3090-
my 08 is loaded to 2889/ Varget 150 SST. I can play with them but these velocities are about all my mine will get

While I am commenting-- I often read of the 10 MM being nearly a .41 Mag.... no nada negatory neyet nein nay-nay etc
My 5" .10 MM will not come close to a .41 --depends on what you call close
a 220 @ 1150 maybe a bit more --factory 210 Remington 1342+
My 6" DWA will shoot a 295 gr SKK bullet at 1150-1200 - my 5.5" RHawk would take the 220 to the 1500's...

is in a 10" G-2 barrel with a 180 grain JHP. If I remember right it was still about 75 fps down from the 41 mag factory specs.

The 10mm is often touted as a semi-auto cannon. It is pretty powerful for a flat sided 10-15 shot 3 lb. auto. Sort of a hot .44 Special or in custom form getting close to the Keith's version of the .44 Magnum. He specified a 240 gr. at 1200 fps, not 1500!

I guess if you only look at the .41 Magnum "police load" from 1964 it might be true. In itself not a bad loading for general uses. That and general factory loads in .41 vs hot specialty loads in 10mm. Not a fair comparison.

I had a friend who thought his Glock 29 was the baddest carry gun there ever was. I didn't have heart to tell him from a 3-3/4"" barrel he almost turned his 10mm into a .40 S&W G22 ballistic twin. But it is a good gun. The G19/23, 29, and G30/G30s are all very close to the same size, and fantastic guns.

Several of us Misfits have "cheater" 10mm's. Special 6" barreled customs with heavy springs, custom throating, porting, and shooting slick cast bullets. (not to mention sporting red dot electronic sighting) I've shot 200 gr. and 230 gr. FPGC fast enough to get me banished as irresponsible, mimicking Kase's developed loads, and working them up in my custom. What it can do with AA#7 and LongShot is eye opening.

For shorter ranges the 10mm is a hot hunting or back-up auto with the right ammo for the job.

As to the .30-06 I don't push it really. I own more powerful arms if I need more than what the old 06' produces. Plus that seldom crops up. It is fun shooting lighter bullets to expand it's usefulness, the Speer Varminter 110 gr. is very explosive.

WWB you are right the 10 mm is a powerful auto round... and it is ,I guess, a compliment to compare it with the .41 by picking the slower .41 fac. loads and a hotter 10 mm you can get them closer but case capacity and pressure will win in the end BTW I like the 10mm we have. I would like to take a deer with one
If I could chose -- I prefer the ..08 family 243,7.08,.308,.358 -I really like the .358- exception is my beloved 25.06. Which I sold to a beloved friend because he has a pace maker and he asked for it. But time, life and money has said no to that collection

I have never actually messed with it too much. It's too hot for the Contender and the Encore can house such bigger rounds. Also it requires a 5-shot conversion for the standard BH. So that RH is the perfect conversion chassis. I went .429 GNR which is about the same, just slightly bigger bullets. The two are arguably the same in power and uses. A critter will not full over which you shoot it with, .41 or .44.

In an auto of reasonable size we are about done. I find the Grizzly even on the big size, more comparable to a full on hunting Revolver than a packable semi-auto sidearm. It can be toted, the AMP too but they are hefty, about a pound more than conventional autos. So the hot .45's and 10mm are the beans. I guess the new Coonan in .357 is in there somewhere but they are not in the same class as a top end hunting magnum revolver.

but the entire debacle was blotted out by Dr. Firman's glee at me hitting so low and walking the impact up to the target. I ran out of ammo just before I showed success. He exclaimed I came upon the economy of reusing my targets, after I wiped the dirt off of them. LOL

What I viewed on a hunting show. Fellow shot a big Cape buffalo with a 10mm dan and Wesson 1911. One shot short tracking job. Discuss....lol

identical to a 30-30 in a rifle. And most folks with a brain wouldn't go after a Cape Buff with a 30-30. And yes I took mine with a single shot handgun but I did say
"most folks with a brain". Quite often I find myself not in that group.

built on a custom model 629 in 410 GNR (a one of a kind never to be duplicated) but remembering some of the tales good friend and PH Mark Sullivan told me thru the years of some of his close encounters with cape Buffs with 500 Nitros, 600 Nitros, 577 Nitros and such, and knowing that he has taken probably more Cape Buff than any other PH alive today, that 410 GNR began to look awful small. So I left the 410 GNR home.

with a 470 first then shot in the head with the 10mm. After the HHC and seeing what a pig and a goat can take to kill. I am thinking something crew served and lanyard fired!

Cape a few months ago I would have to call that fellow either a bullshit artist, or a flat out liar. And his PH should be fined for letting him try it. I had thought about trying a cape with my 410 GNR but my PH wisely said no. After seeing how my Cape took a 500 grain Hornady soft point at 2000 fps on point of shoulder, which dropped him, but he tried to get back up and a second shot was needed, I would have a real hard time believing a 10mm put one down. And it wouldn't matter if it was a Glock, Dan Wesson, or a custom 10mm, it doesn't add up.
