a 10mm semi auto I asked our PH John Abraham about it, as all the laws I have read say it can't be done legally. This is John's answer to my questions...

Gary

Good to hear from you. I just got home, season is over.

Hunting with any semi auto in SA or any other African country is illegal. That will never change.
Strictly speaking a 10mm caliber is legal to hunt the big five as our law states it must be minimum 375 caliber. However some ordinances require a minimum muzzle energy which would rule out low velocity but bigger calibers such as 45 ACP etc.

We just had another fool shoot a buffalo with one of those new air guns. But the idiots videoed it and put it on social media so now both the hunter and the Outfitter are under investigation.

Best advice is to stick to dedicated hunting handguns.

Looking forward to our next hunt.
Your friend,
John
