Educate me on the .244 Remington.

twist rate and the heavier weight bullet at 100 grains, the American public was leery (in the mid 50s) of anything with MM after the caliber, unless it also had MM Magnum after it, it only being 10 or so years after WW2. The 244 came out first and was loaded with the lighter weight bullets and had the 12 twist for those bullets. A lot of hunters decided it would be a good caliber for elk and bitched about it not shooting the 100 grain bullets well. That was when Remington dodged the bullet and renamed the cartridge 6mm Remington and it was initially put out in 100 grain bullets. These days the 6mm Remington will shoot anything from 80 grains to 105 but not the real lightweight bullets well. Remington blamed all the confusion on the hunters but Remington just had too many chiefs and not enough Indians.
