Reeder Custom Guns - 1200 FPS +/-

Is 1200 FPS +/- a few a general all around sweet spot for velocity using a .44 Magnum or .454 Casull with hard cast loads? I don't want bone jarring recoil and horrendous muzzle blast, just a good load for deer and black bear, maybe even an elk. Thanks guys,

In the 44 mag can even be dropped to 1100 Smaller bullets such as a 250 gr are nice at bout 1000fps. What you want in 454?

Using 325-335 gr hard cast in my .454. Again, just looking for a load that won't shake me, and the gun loose. I know the .454 can be pretty brutal with the "full power" loads.
I see a lot of manufacturers don't load the caliber to it's full potential due to the heavy recoil and increased pressures. When I got it I took it out and shot a box of the Hornady XTP 240 gr. at 1900 FPS. It was fun but nothing I would't shoot again, haven't tried the 300 gr. XTP or the 335 gr hard cast yet and I have several boxes of each just begging to be shot.

At about 1400 fps. It's rather a unique setup. Provides more power than factory 44 Magnum and requires less powder than a 357 Magnum. Hard to beat the combination.

That is plenty to get the job done.

What grain bullet? The 300

.454

I use the 250 grn XTP and Longshot Powder in mine...

1200 IS ALL YOU NEED.
