Bushcraft training question...
In college my (now) wife and I both took a PE course through the ROTC division of our university. The manual we used for the class was the US Manual FM 21-76 "Survival Evasion and Escape". We enjoyed it very much and the Sergent Major Isley who taught the class used great stories and unique humor.
Our kids are now home schooled and we are planning on incorporating this teaching. It's fun and I think everyone needs to know how to do navigation with a compass. You just do! (I've been trained to do it underwater - boy can you get turned around!)
The old manual we used was Army Vietnam vintage and a good book. Has anyone gone through the Navy SERE program? I see they have a manual too and was wondering if anyone has experience with that book/program? I'm sure both have lots of old Cowboy and Boy Scout smarts incorporated into them. The Army manual sure did, I remembered many points.
It's fun and useful for any outdoor exploring anyway. Certainly trips gone afar hunting.
