Reeder Custom Guns - Tough Game

Game animals are a lot tougher than they were when I was a kid. In my teen years we shot deer and small game with 303 British surplus army rifles, old Model 94 30-30's and some guys even used old obsolete Winchesters in 38-40 or 44-40!

These days the animals are so tough that it requires a 6,0025 Creedmare rifle that has so much muzzle velocity that it can be sighted in at 30 feet and it will shoot absolutely flat to 3000 yards. Bullets have to be made of the tiles that they used on the Space Shuttles. Otherwise they melt in flight.

As a kid we shot with iron sights and thought we had gone to heaven if we got to use a rifle with aperture sights. The guns nowdays have computer-driven telescopes with lazy range-finders that automatically adjust the sights to whatever distance you happen to be shooting.

I guess it is needed because the game animals have gotten so hard to stop. Last year I took one of Gary's big guns to shoot these little Texas Whitetail deer. I got with 40 yards of one and fired and blew it in half! Talk about tough! BOTH HALVES GOT AWAY!

Guess I'm gonna have to get me one of them Creedmares. Maybe a 7,000.

The 32 Win Spl. It has always amazed me at how well I can remember the details, it was the late 70s on Moosehead Lake in Maine. BTW it required only one shot from open sights but as its been said they're a lot tougher nowadays.

IN .308 WITH A WEAVER 4X SCOPE. HE CAME BACK A FEW DAYS LATER AND SAID HE NEEDED A DIFFERENT SCOPE/RIFLE AND. WHY? HIS FRIENDS SAID .308 WAS NOT ENOUGH AND 4X WAS TOO SMALL. I TOLD HIM THAT RIFLE AND SCOPE WILL WORK FINE FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE. HE FELT BETTER.

Several species of game with single shot rifles and cast bullets. It's interesting to get out a "Cartridges of the World" book and see just how little energy and how curved the trajectories were on these old guns.

I've been bbq'd for years promoting the old classics. Hope you guys get a warmer reception than I have.

To be fair, the creedmoor was designed as a long-range target cartridge. It's comparable to a 6.5x55 that has been used as a hunting cartridge since 1894.

claim it is great for bull elk and like sized critters. And tell that to the various gun writers that say it is the best cartridge to ever be designed. Let's see how long it takes the new Hornady round to kick it's butt.

over-rated cartridge on the market. If it was half as good as the gun writers say it is, all the other cartridges would be obsolete. Only a addled brained 22 year old would believe all the stuff written about it.

Not the cartridge. To me it's quite simple. If you want one, buy it. If you don't, then pass it by.

I remember reading about lawmen shooting thru car engine blocks with a 357 Magnum. This was in the day of huge iron blocks, not aluminum and plastic.

Now we question it's ability to kill a skinny whitetail.

I've killed white tails with guns from Ruger Old Army's, all sorts of Model 94 Marlins and Ruger carbines up to 7MM mag.
They killed em all dead.
