I've seen my wife haul off and slug a horse that put it's ears back and bared it's teeth at her, yet she's incapacitated by a spider no bigger than a fingernail, that makes a lot of sense. A couple of years ago we vacationed in Islesboro, ME. Googled it and found there's "unusually large" wolf spiders in parts of the island.
