Deer Hunt
I read the forum often and enjoy it but don’t usually post with the exception of a couple of questions I’ve had about a couple of contender barreals I have. Tonight I got to hunt with my dad and 4 year old son and got a nice buck with my 30 GNR contenter. It was a fire form load that turned out to be so accurate that I didn’t want to just shoot them all up so I hunted with them. It was 30-30 brass with 33 grains our H332 out of Gary’s Manuel and a 125 grain Sierra spritzer. The shot was about 145 yards. Thanks for the enjoyment and letting me share. that 125 grain load that Nick used is a great load
whether in a 30-30 or in the 30 GNR. The whole Reeder clan has used that load many times on a lot of animals from small Key Deer size critters to cow elk. The deer very seldom run when hit with it. It is like a lightning strike.

Yes, that load worked great. Admitadly I pulled the shot on the buck but it still did the trick. I shot a doe the night before at 70 yards through both lungs and it worked perfectly on her too.
