Reeder Custom Guns - O.M. 45 Colt - A gun of contention...

Bought this gun off the forum a year ago. NIB Old Model 45 Blackhawk Convertible.

All the things I like gun. Caliber, counterbored chambers, zero barrel gap. Tight throats at .449-.450" that I opened to .452".

The gun did not need an action job. Added Belt Mountain #5 Base Pin and Badger Oak Grips.

Then it started. Many nasty emails and messages regarding the collecting value of this gun. Up to and including telling me that somebody like me didn't deserve such a gun. I laughed it off while loading ammo. I finished it up last night and will shoot when weather and time allows. I'm not a collector and no safe queens here.

I own 4 45 colts, 3Rugers and 1 S&W. 1 Highly modified, 2 slightly modified and 1 stock. I also own about 35 hunting handguns, most modified. Do I give a shxt what somebody says about me modifying my guns? NOT

From 1956. Just looking at it is great, but it’s even more enjoyable to use it as intended.

It's the use of the majority that makes unused examples rare and more valuable. Puffy traded me a ROA .44 that looked unfired, more easy to tell on those. It was "too nice" for me to use for what I wanted. So I sold it to a collector, traded for an old pig from Jeff Stamper. Drilled holes in it and used it for some fun hunting.

Sadly, both fine fellers are now gone. We all had some fun out of them, made memories, passed them on to others to do the same. Who gives a rip what anyone else thinks anyway. If it mattered, I'd be strangled for sure.

C model Auto Mag there on display that I had full engraved. One older guy came by the table and asked who the asshole was that engraved a very rare gun. I told that asshole was my wife's husband. He had to think about that for a second. After rolling his eyes around a bit trying to get that clear in his addled brain, he said, "so that was you". I was already tired of idiot questions for 3 full days so I just said "you figured that out all by yourself?" Anyway he went on and on about how I defiled a collector's item and one of only 60 made. I told him "yep and if I had 2 of them, I would have made them a matched pair". He huffed and puffed and finally left mumbling something about me not having a legal father.

About 30 minutes before the show closed, he came back to my table to look at the gun again. He then asked me how much did I want for it. Now I would have taken $3000 for it as the C models weren't the best Auto Mags ever made as they were made from leftover parts as the company was closing the doors. Anyway, because he was such a lovable person I told him I wanted $4500 for it. He mumbled a bit and finally snookered me down to $4300. We closed the deal at one of the tables where they did the transfers and I had him pay the $50 for the transfer fee. He seemed to be happy with his "collectors item" and I was $4300 better off. So I guess a collector's item means more to some folks than to others.

But, I don't try to tend to others business. If a collector bought it, then it's their's to do with as they please.

But, it's like the tree huggers. They watch Oprah reruns and eat Snickers while someone else works to buy land. Then bitch about what the buyer does with it.

I offered to sell it to one who declined due to financial difficulties. Hmmm....

I happen to like "JM" Marlins and Rugers. I only have three I haven't shot...........but plan to. I have an 1894 CB Limited in .357 mag and an 1894 CBC Limited NIB. They will be shot.
My Ruger 44 Carbine International will be shot also.
Bravo, its yours shoot it. I shot my un-fired SS ROA 45 just the other day.

That raised a few comments. Ended up sending another pre prefix 41 mag for the octagon barrel and I'm your huckleberry treatment. That is the gun everyone asks to see when they come into the pharmacy. Maybe my kids will sell them for what they are worth someday.....
