I am currently trying to lose weight to get off of blood pressure medicine. THe FDA has sent out a recall on my type of medicine (Losartan). I am struggling to find a diet, and exercise method that works for me. I am currently walking/runnning three days a week and trying to get a healthy diet routine. So far just a few pounds of weight gone. I am 37 years old and want to kick this in the ass to get healthy again. I am in need of advice from any misfits that have had success in this area
Paul, keep up the good work. Weights help.

I'm 70, last year I went to lifestyle physicians at the suggestion (insistence) of my wife. Weighed in at 290.6 months later 245. Now I'm more rectangular than round.
Cut down to 800 calories for 3 months w/vitamin supplements, now 1200 with the same vitamins.
Use a doctor, are worth it.Good luck. Wish I'd done this 5 years ago.
Paul, I went to Weight Watchers, and it worked for me. I

have you considered a gym, a trainer could help you find a routine the would work for you. The same routine won't work for everyone as everyone's goals are different, to a point. He/she could probably help with your diet also.

of this year. I am now at 175 and my target us 170 to 165 pounds. I am 74 and the way I did it was the Wheatbelly diet. Leave off white stuff, i.e. sugar, candy, soft drinks, bread (use whole grain and only small amounts of that, POTATOES, and other items that convert to sugar in your bloodstream. Basically my doctor told me it was a diabetic's diet. I ride a stationary bicycle (Schwinn) about 2 to 3 hours a week. Thats it. The advice for someone your age to go to a gym with a trainer is golden... Exercise is good for you but it must be directed to achieve your goals. Just my take on weight and health in general. Your body, your call.
Congratulations! You have identified a problem

And are working to fix it. The best thing I ever did was stop drinking sugary drinks. This includes juice. If you drink tea or coffee do so without adding sugar or cream. I prefer to eat my calories! I drink water 80 percent of the time with unsweetened ice tea hot tea coffee ounding out the rest. I lost 25lbs just by doing that. It is hard at first but gets better. Besides the good Lord made water for drinking!
Good luck you can do it!

It's a lifestyle change instead of just a diet. Lean proteins, low saturated fat, low sodium and plenty of exercise. My weakness was the sweets and the meats I ate too much of. Loved some sweet tea, ice cream, ribeye steaks with loaded baked potatoes. It took a while but your taste buds will change, drink mostly water now, no sodas. Lots of good advice from the guys on here, find something that works for you, and, do what the Dr says and you will be fine.
I struggled for may years with excess weight.

Because of the inability to exercise and the fact i haven't met a food I didn't like. Last year I bit the bullet and had gastric bypass surgery, the best decision I have ever made,
Good luck and know we are rooting for you.

They are free printable versions on the internet. Stick to it, no loss for about 7 days then bam about 5-10 lbs are gone. Cleared my complexion, gave me energy boost, especially after some lbs are gone. What's nice about it after you get to your desired weight you can increase portions to maintain your weight and go off it when you go to dinner, etc. I get about 15-20k steps on my fitbit a day walking my dogs. Also I use elastic bands 3 or 4 times a week for resistance training. Eat less move more. Fullproof.

I was seeing a Endocrinologist every 4 months (now 6). He put me on the spot because my weight had started to creep up. He said no more carbs. Breakfast 2 eggs, piece of real cheese and half of avocado. No bread, rice, potatoes, bakery, pasta no carbs period. That includes macoroni and cheese folks. Trust me there enough hidden carbs. If you must have pizza thinest of the thin crust and then only a small portion. Mashed califlower instead of mashed potatoes. This Thursday we bring the cauliflower mash. Grandkids actually like. Switching from a biscuit to bagel is no gain. It has to be a life style change or forget it. You have the fat DNA it has to be. I had dropped 45 LB over a 10 years but as a reach 60 it was harder. In the last 4 months I have lost 20 lbs. My fasting sugary has dropped from 120 to 96. I am fitting in blue jeans I haven't wore in 10 years. I can now EDC better. Quitting carbs is like stop smoking. You will never quit until you want to. By the way I take blood pressure medication always have since my twenties and always will. Not a bad thing it protects the organs. Every night after work I do 3 miles on the elliptical and 30 minutes of weight training. Like my doctor said you can be on insulin in 1 one year or 10 your choice. Sorry about the rant.
Not really a diet but a lifestyle change for me.

I’ve lost 40# and maintained at least a 35# loss for 1 year now.
The main thing, for me, was portion control. One sensible portion. A glass of water before a meal and another after I finish my portions of food. IF, if, I think I’m hungry then I wait at least 15 minutes and recheck. Generally don’t need it. Yep, you’ll probably be hungry for about a week. Bear with it though.
Next is exercise. I started and have maintained a plank routine using a yoga mat. Start off with a 5 minute plank exercise. Web searches will get you a SIMPLE routine. Start slow & build on it AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS ON IT before adding more reps then additional sets. Remember, you need to prepare to work out before working out. If you can’t do 30 seconds then try 15 seconds and build up from there. Find your pace. If you don’t then you get sore and discontinue it. I also add Russian twists, oblique abdominal exercises, spiderman planks, mountain climber planks and burpees. Elbow planks are just as effective as full planks. Burpees suck, plain and simple.
At 53, I weigh less than my high school weight and am 5# off my military weight. I hit the high 160s and feel that is light enough. Maintain low 170s regularly. I stopped at maintaining a 2 pack vs 6 pack because lowering my body fat really makes me look drawn and gaunt. My maximum workout time per day is 20 minutes. I will say, the older I get the stronger my will gets. In this instance it’s a good thing. I eat what I want and realize I may have to watch what I eat the next day or exercise more. The latter drives the decision more often than not.
Start slow, be diligent, disciplined and find someone/something (weight scale) for accountability. If needed, try a 1500 calorie/day diet - 300 calories for breakfast, 400 calories for lunch, 500 calories for dinner. Add in two (2) 150 calorie snacks generally before dinner and between meals.
YMMV as I’m no doctor.
