distributor would bring a semi truck load of safes and park it in front of the shop. It was like a consignment sale. We paid for any safe that sold and the rest went back to the distributor. The customers saved as they didn't have that shipping charge and they could pick out the safe they liked out of the bunch. At the time, my distributor told me there were only 3 safe companies, Ft. Knox, Cannon and American Security. He said most safes like the nice different colored ones with Winchester, Browning, etc on the front were all made by American Security. I have a big double wide monster at home that is an American Security safe and several other safes with the Winchester and Browning logos on the front that are all marked inside the door exactly like the American Security safes I have at home.

Now it has been 20 or more years since we did those sales and that long since I talked to the sales rep but at the time, he said there were only 3 major companies that made all the safes.
