I was looking around on the forum at Lee Martin's site and ran across a discussion under Rifles where one of the folks there was talking about Gary Reeder's .500 S&W lever action conversion. He was worried it would not hold up. A person named Texasdude 74 made the statement "I have read that most of Reeder's revolvers are not shot much" in a response. I wonder where (more likely IF) he read that. I am just one of Gary's customers but I own a dozen Reeder revolvers, single and double action, and one rifle. I have
shot the everlasting hell out of all of them and they just keep on shooting. I suspect this is just one example of some snob not wanting to appreciate Gary's work because Gary doesn't charge $5,000 and take 4 years to complete a conversion project. Enough ranting for the morning.
Like my Granny used to say "there ain't no cure for stupid"

I am no ballistics guru but I thought the 500 S&W is a pistol cartridge made for revolvers. This guy thinks a revolver cartridge is gonna break a rifle capable of shooting 45/70 and in some cases even more powerful rifle cartridges?
PS right now I only have two of Gary's

G2 pistols and one Encore rifle. I have a Southern Comfort 356 GNR/357 Mag combo in the works that I will be receiving soon. You better believe it's gonna be shot. My next one is gonna be one of the Hunter series in 429GNR/44 Mag combo which also will be used.
Hmmmmm..... more research needed...

I have a lot of Reeder customs and I shoot a lot. Some favorites get shot nearly every week. Still havent wore one out but Ill keep trying! To be honest I suspect my wrist will go first.
If I remember a fellow misfit with 16,000 rds with 455 GNR

I have 4 GNR revolvers, 4 contender barrels, and 2 Encore barrels. I know I have fired over a 1000 rounds through my 378GNR. No problems except finding the money to pay the taxidermist to mount all the dead animals.

and a few thousand through my .300 GNR OM. Time will tell. It usually takes me about a thousand rounds to find my list of "good" loads that I prefer in any given caliber. I also find it's a good idea to replace single shot TC Encore barrel bolt springs every 300-500 rnds. (+/-), in the really big caliber heavy kickers, based on the .50/AK or .348 (.416,.440,.476 GNR).
But then again, I'm just a casual hobbyist shooter, myself.
I just took a look at that site

I am surprised Martin allows the bad mouthing of

The only issue I have with them is me....
I don't think he allows it, I just think he hasn't

caught up with it yet. The guy who made the original post is new to Lee Martin's site. The one where he tried to be funny about or critical of your guns was only his 5th or 6th post. I saw what he wrote and he immediately impressed me as a pot stirring blowhard.
And many times these "NEW" members are repeat offenders...

Who have been banned and return under a different names.
But, everyone gets their turn. Successful cartridges, gunsmiths, companies, etc. Almost exclusively from the "NEW" members.
I recently was reviewing some of those threads. One said he fired a new Ruger and it fell into pieces in his had. One authority said Freedom Arms used "grossly oversized throats" to minimize pressure so didn't destroy their guns. Uberti and Taurus get bashed due to not charging more for their revolvers. They must be junk or they'd cost more. Sound logic...
But, Magnum Research also clearly builds junk. Their BFR Revolvers and Desert Eagle have hung in a long time. They still get bashed.
My opinion remains the same. If you want it, buy one. If you don't, let it pass.
But, nobody does that. Conflict just seems like a drug that many get addicted to. My guess is it's Trumps fault.
Stone, usually when one bad mouths a gun maker it is because

he has never even held one and in most cases can't afford one, so he bad mouths them. I get one of our guns in every so often for us to tighten up or reblue. They have shot them so much they are beginning to be a bit loose and the finish is worn off.
also the 1895 is quite often built in 50 Alaskan

and that has a lot more pressure and punch and stress on the frame than the 500 S&W. We build the 500 S&W in our stretch frame revolvers and they hold up fine.
I wish I knew how many rounds I have put

through my .410, .500,41 GNR in a 5.5" Rhawk and 9" TC
I normally shoot about twice a month until too hot which will stop me. Too cold may stop me, may be not. Usually I go through 12-15 rounds per time per gun we shoot. With exception of the .500GNR these are full power loads. We shoot 30-40 times a year. I usually go through a pound+ of H110/296 per year just for the .410. A loose screw is normally all we have. This on the gun not the shooter,:)

to .41 GNR. One for me and one for my brother commemorating the passing of my father. Mine has been shot many times with different loads. I now have a 41 mag cylinder that has shot many rounds. Gary's pistols are rock solid.
I also purchased a .45 colt from a fellow misfit and have put over a thousand rounds through. When a Vaquero is done right it is money. I'm not a wealthy man I have to look for what is the best for my money.
Gary and Crew keep up the good work. Some day a .41 gnr or 429 gnr carbine.
