Reeder Custom Guns - one of the few rules we have on here is no bad mouthing one

of the custom gun guys. I don't care if he has a fat ugly sister who dates Alcorn we don't bad mouth him or any of the other custom gun guys.

So it bothers me to go into this but it is something I need to say. A good friend sent me one of the new issue Walther PPK pistols in 22 LR today. Now the Walther PPK and PPK/S have always been some of the finest 380s made. First the German made and then the Interarms guns made in Virginia. Excellent guns. This is why it bothers me to mention this. The Walther I got in today for an action job and refinish in our Christmas sale a day or so ago is one of the worst semi autos I have seen in many years. I have seen Ravens and Jennings that were smoother and finished better. The Walther PPK and PPK/S were announced recently as being back in production. The parts made in Germany and put together and refinished in Arkansas. Well, somewhere along the way somebody hired some drunks or blind folks. The finish on the 22 PPK we got in today is absolutely horrible. It is a very cheap looking matte industrial chrome. The polishing before it was plated almost wiped all the letters out. The double action trigger was off the 18 lb scale, so at least 20 lbs. The gun is very cheap looking, again I have seen the old RG pistols that look better, and for sure the old Ravens and Jennings were finished much better. The chrome plated Davis Derringers looked great compared to this clunker. I showed it to my guys, thinking maybe I was wrong and it wasn't as bad as I had first thought. Their response was even worse, unprintable on here.

This is very disappointing to me as I was hoping Walther was actually bringing back a fine PPK or PPK/S like they used to be, but unfortunately they didn't.

Maybe this one was a fluke and not typical of what is coming out of the Walther plant in Arkansas. I sure hope so. I wouldn't own one of them and if this is typical of their "quality" we won't carry them in our shop either. Nuff said.

Back in production as I had one of each - PPK and PPK/S back in the 70's. Both were very nice guns but I lost them in a fire. I looked at one of the mew ones at a LGS and saw the same poor quality as you.

Walther has with the Airgun manufacturer "Umarex". They make a lot of popular airguns for several manufacturers like Crossman etc. In fact Roman was gifted a Colt marked M4 .22 rimfire carbine a couple years back. It is a really close "looking" M4 AR look-a-like. In fact it was manufactured by Umarex, under contract, for Colt. It has only the bore size and outward shape in common with a real M4 carbine. Internally it is a very simplified blow back rimfire utilizing many die-cast parts. It works fine and is very reliable and accurate. Internally it sort of looks like an airgun though. To adapt it to suppressor work we had to purchase a "Walther" small fine thread adapter!

I think they might be integrating some airgun manufacture techniques, perhaps refining them, to firearm manufacturing. It is only my theory though, and needs further confirmation. If Ruger can apply jewlery making casting to making guns why not this, if they get it down and end up with a quality product. I have not examined it myself but it sounds like some have looked into the matter and not found it agreeable as of yet. I'd leave that up to the individual, but they have been given notice here to look a bit closer.

real nice fellow with his family, Asian bunch from California. Denning ran them around, super kind of him too. They shot a bunch of critters and hauled the meat off.

He was a computer genius from Silicon valley. He wrote code to extract data to be sold for profit. He told me that "everything bad you have ever heard about the internet, it's true". Every click, even how long before you click, is recorded for some benefit to someone. All these algorithms are designed to collect data and figure out who it might be of value to, then sold for profit.

I hate those little pop ups, then it takes forever for a "X" to appear to cancel it out.

factory with a bad extractor, and they sent it back to the owner in the horrible shape it is in. They had 2 chances to fix all the problems and didn't. Doesn't sound good for the new Walthers.
